Hello! My name is Bret, and I obtained my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy at Edgewood College. Although it may sound a little misleading, MFT's are trained to work with a variety of presenting concerns, not just folx in intimate partnerships and families. We work with individuals, partnerships, families (biological and/or chosen), groups, and any other therapy structure one may think of. I consider myself a generalist in the field, meaning I provide therapy to folx of various backgrounds on various stages of the life cycle.
Throughout my training and practice, I have proudly stood by the notion that we all walk around with a desire for our stories to be heard free of judgement; however, sometimes the world gets in the way of this, whether it be due to societal pressures, life responsibilities, or simply not giving oneself the permission to tell those stories. If someone enters the therapy room with me, they can expect a space to give themselves that permission. I believe untold stories have the potential to bottle up inside and eat away at us, and the therapeutic space I hope to co-create with folx invites them to release that poison. We all want to be understood and be acknowledged as the beautiful people we are, and my hope for folx is that they can find that in the therapy room with me as we listen to – and perhaps rewrite – those stories together.
