Hi there, my name is Shelby. I received my Master of Science in Art Therapy from Mount Mary University in May 2022. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, children, and families, and I'm passionate about using Art Therapy to connect and create therapeutic change with clients. Art Therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from traditional, verbal communication. Through kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities, alternative forms of receptive and expressive communication can be explored. Visual and symbolic expression gives voice to experience and empowers individuals, their families, and beyond. This type of therapy is adaptable to fit the needs and abilities of all individuals.
The way we experience life and the world is specific to each of us. I believe therapy should be no different; it should be tailored to each individual. I use an integrative approach including the use of Art Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, and I also utilized a strengths-based, culturally sensitive, and person-centered approach.
I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with clients and their families as a part of the Steps to Success Day Treatment Program. Working together we can create a therapy experience that is healing and empowering.
