Theresa Ditlow, Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a graduate of the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and I hold a Masters of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology and have been providing psychotherapy to children, teens, adults, and families for 13 years.

I was first trained to practice psychotherapy from a psycho-dynamic approach, but throughout my career, I have valued and utilized various tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Client-Centered Therapy. I believe that when someone enters psychotherapy they possess all the qualities and strengths as a pathway to deepening their understanding of their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

However, sometimes we can feel "stuck", feeling like we are unable to move beyond certain experiences that have happened in our life or certain thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, these "stuck feelings" pertain to a problem that is more current or possibly an event from our childhood. Often, certain therapeutic approaches can be used to help individuals overcome whatever they feel is holding them back from achieving their full potential. Two different evidence-based approaches I enjoy using for these types of challenges are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). These approaches have been shown to be effective in helping people move through unresolved thoughts and feelings involving past and current experiences.

Some of my specific clinical interests include working with children, teens, and adults impacted by trauma, individuals experiencing life transition, family therapy, school-based services, working with student-athletes, individuals impacted by anxiety, depression, and ADHD, and individuals seeking help with transitions around pregnancy, parenthood, and post-partum.
